A major milestone for Hungary’s energy transition & proud achievement for the SEC Newgate CEE Hungary team.
On 10 June 2026, Hungary’s largest battery energy storage facility to date was officially inaugurated in Buj, a small village 250 km away from Budapest. The project, developed by Greenvolt Power, consists of two battery storage units with a combined capacity of 99.8 MW and was supported by more than HUF 11.3 billion in non-repayable EU funding.
SEC Newgate CEE’s Budapest office, led by Attila Piskóti, was responsible for the end-to-end event management, Public Affairs and PR activities. From stakeholder engagement and media relations to event planning and on-site execution, our team managed every aspect of this landmark project.
The event brought together key representatives from government, the energy sector and local administration. Distinguished participants included João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group; András Tótth, State Secretary for Energy at the Ministry of Economy and Energy; Gergő Batta, Deputy CEO for Operations of MAVIR; and László Takács, Mayor of Buj.
We are particularly proud that State Secretary András Tótth attended the inauguration less than two weeks after his appointment. His participation reflects the strong and constructive working relationships that SEC Newgate Budapest has built with key public stakeholders, helping facilitate meaningful dialogue between decision-makers and investors.
During the event, speakers highlighted the strategic importance of energy storage for Hungary’s future energy system. The new facility will support the integration of renewable energy sources, increase market flexibility, reduce balancing costs and contribute to a more secure and competitive electricity market.
For SEC Newgate CEE, the inauguration was an opportunity to showcase our integrated communications expertise, combining Public Affairs, stakeholder engagement, media relations and event management in support of one of Hungary’s most significant energy infrastructure projects.
The results have been outstanding: the event has already generated coverage in more than 30 local, national and international media outlets. This exceptional visibility highlights both the significance of the investment and the effectiveness of SEC Newgate Hungary’s media relations network.
